I don't have the Marine Master, but I've had both Rolexes and the 600-meter Seiko quartz Professional, and the Seiko wins hands-down for accuracy (not surprising). I think Seikos have the edge in general, in terms of who's really using them (miltary divers and the like) versus those who are buying them for the name and because they have enough money. Having priced itself out of this market (most, but not all, professional divers), Rolex now has to depend on yuppies and investment bankers to buy their watches.

Yes, the Rolexes are beautiful (the SD more so than the Sub, IMHO), but the prices are just Godawfully high compared with the Seiko Marine Master. I think the Marine Master wins hands-down compared with the Rolex Sub, and I think your average intelligent commando or navy diver would probably get the Marine Master before he would get the SD (1) because very few navy divers (and probably few or no commandos) are involved with saturation diving, and nobody goes as far as 300 meters (let alone below), and (2) because you are more likely to be distracted from doing your job if you are worried about breaking a $4,000 watch than if you are worried about breaking a $1,500 watch.

have had both the MM and the Sub. I think the price of the MM is more realistic considering that you can buy one at a disount from the retail price. I also think it is important to point out that the MM is not a watch you will ever see on another persons wrist. My big issue with Seiko is the parts and service program. Better service and parts 30 years down the road would give the MM even more of an advantage. If you are just looking in terms of value for the price the MM would be the choice. Rolex has a high resale as do high-end Seikos. Resale should not be much of an issue. I collect both Seiko and Rolex because I admire quaity craftmanship. Seiko puts out some very high quality products that are up there with the Swiss companies. The MM is a perfect example of this. After having a Sub and a MM, I am still at a loss for your answer. I think it comes down to making a choice that will suit you the best, or you could just save the $$$$ and buy both!!! Good luck!!!
